I always like to see Jacksonville mentioned at the national level, and this article from the Huffington Post actually says something good about us! O, Pioneer! 5 Secretly Cool Cities Where You Can Still Get in on the Ground Floor by David Landsel talks about how cities like Austin and Portland have become saturated with people who have already moved to these cities to take advantage of all the good things these cities have to offer. For the people that have missed the boat on moving to these cities, he gives us an additional 5 cities that are just coming into their prime for those who want to get in on the ground floor.
Those cities are
- San Antonio
I must say I have to agree with his number one pick. Jacksonville has really started to come into its own over the last 5 years. With the attempts to bring people back downtown, our revitalized historic neighborhoods, burgeoning beer culture, easy access to beaches and trails, Jacksonville really has a lot to offer to everyone.
David Landsel specifically mentions in this article
- Our microbreweries of Intuition and Aardwolf.
- Outstanding cafes Brew in Five Points and Vagabond Coffee in Murray Hill
- Farmers market with growers such as Congaree and Penn
- Downtown’s public square of Hemming Park (probably means Plaza, haha) and it’s nearby candy shop, Sweet Pete’s.
- The beach’s Flask & Cannon.
- And finally, St Augustine’s Ice Plant
I personally think he should have also included Bold City, Green Room and Engine 15 at the very least in our list of impressive breweries as well as include Bold Bean in our list of cafe’s. For a short paragraph, though, who can include all the great things that Jacksonville has going for it? Any honorable mentions that you, the reader, think should be added to this list of what makes Jacksonville the start of becoming a place people should rush to move to?
