Eat Up Downtown’s purpose is clear — draw Jacksonville’s citizenry away from their favorite outlying restaurants and into downtown. Some of the most highly regarded establishments in the city trot out their three course prix fixe menus once a year for the low, low price of $25. Galloping hordes of diners (in theory) pour into their chairs, sample the fare and establish a relationship that will last the whole year through. So, what happened at Indochine?

When relatively unfettered by economy, what level of cuisine is possible? Can it be sustainable? Can it be local? Can a “normal” person buy an expensive meal and not feel robbed? Can it knock your socks off? Can you get it south of Manhattan? At Augustine Grille the answer to all of these questions is “yes.”

As you may have read in the November Food News, Intuition Ale Works has fired up their craft brewery and is now selling their People’s Pale Ale to area bars and restaurants. I was lucky enough to be invited to their grand opening media event and I was blown away! Just wait until you try — the pizza? Oh, yeah…

I was invited recently to try out Roy’s Aloha Hour with bloggess extraordinare Nancy White. After several recent less-than-stellar experiences with beach restaurant happy hour menus, I was cautiously optimistic that Roy’s would deliver on their Hawaiian fantasy promises.
