Jodi vs. Martha: Black Forest Cookies

It’s Jodi vs. Martha time again!
It’s been awhile since I last attempted one of Martha Stewart’s admittedly excellent recipes, but Martha caught me in her net yet again with her “Martha Stewart Cookie of the Day” email about Black Forest Cookies.
Three kinds of chocolate? Butter? CHERRIES? I’m in.

Jodi vs. Martha: Blueberry Mini Tarts

Other than the addition of some pumpkins and hay bales, the produce purveyors here in Florida don’t look much differently than they did two months ago in the heat of summer. I’m looking forward to that first whiff of autumn – the one you get unexpectedly one morning that smells vaguely of burning leaves and candy corn slow-roasted on a sidewalk after a smashing evening with a pair of sneakers.
That comes sometime in November here.

Jodi vs. Martha – Chocolate Ricotta Icebox Cake

I chose to pick on Martha Stewart for a reason. Sure, you can make fun of her for doing time in the clink and knitting her own Volvo warmer. You can giggle about her barely contained bitchitude or even her penchant for remembering the “little people” by backing over them with her car.
However, Martha Stewart has a few things going for her as well. Nobody does Halloween like Martha. She is a little goth girl at heart and loves Halloween like the Pope loves pontificating. (Martha’s costumes are better than …

Butterscotch and Caramel – What’s the Difference?

Butterscotch and caramel are very similar flavors. Most of us get our butterscotch fix from prepared boxed puddings or bottled ice cream toppings. We know caramel as an apple coating or the chewy center of a mass-marketed chocolate candy. But, if you make these sauces yourself or have them in a fine restaurant, you’ll see that the flavors are very different than …

Tales of the indefinite shelf life of the Twinkie have been highly exaggerated. Twinkies actually only have a shelf life of 25 days, according to the Hostess Company, maker of the sweet treat. The cakes last much longer than the average baked good only because they do not contain dairy ingredients.

Jodi vs. Martha: Jam Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting

This is the second part of the “Jodi vs. Martha” series. This recipe was extremely successful. I only got a few bites of one, but the cake was moist, the frosting was perfect and the jam flavor made it bright and fresh. I highly recommend this one!

Road Food: Lisa’s Pies – Atlanta, Indiana

Before going on any trip, I do plenty of research on possible places along the way to try new and exciting foods.
During our trip from Jacksonville to Coloma, Michigan, I knew that I wanted to
think outside the box, outside the norm, inside the jar?

Today I made Pecan Pie Cookies.
Pudge was excited.

Warning: This recipe is not fat-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, salt-free, dairy-free, nut-free or cruelty-free. It is not organic, natural, healthy, heart-friendly or earth-friendly. In fact, to make this recipe any worse, I would have to add bacon. Don’t tempt me.
This will probably kill you, but darn is it tasty! Consider yourself warned.
