Jodi vs. Better Homes & Gardens: Nutella Cream Puffs

We’ll call this one “Jodi vs. Better Homes & Gardens” – as this recipe is a modification of one that appeared under the name “Gianduia Cream Puffs” in the Better Homes & Gardens publication Christmas Baking. Gianduia is the name for a certain sort of Italian chocolate containing hazelnut paste. Originally, Nutella was marketed under [...]

Jodi vs. Martha: Blueberry Mini Tarts

Other than the addition of some pumpkins and hay bales, the produce purveyors here in Florida don’t look much differently than they did two months ago in the heat of summer. I’m looking forward to that first whiff of autumn – the one you get unexpectedly one morning that smells vaguely of burning leaves and [...]

Jodi vs. Martha – Chocolate Ricotta Icebox Cake

I chose to pick on Martha Stewart for a reason. Sure, you can make fun of her for doing time in the clink and knitting her own Volvo warmer. You can giggle about her barely contained bitchitude or even her penchant for remembering the “little people” by backing over them with her car.
However, Martha Stewart [...]

Jodi vs. Martha: Mac & Cheese Smackdown

I first heard of this recipe through SeriousEats.com. This recipe has almost hall of fame status amongst foodies, though. SmittenKitchen, copykat, Bitten and just about every food blog on earth not morally opposed to the consumption of cheese (?!?) has prepared and photographed this recipe. It has many names. Martha’s original name for it in [...]

Movie Review: Julie & Julia

I had the incredible luck to win two tickets to a pre-screening of Julie & Julia last night. I had never been to a pre-screening before, so it was a different sort of experience than any other movie I’ve ever seen. Because the theater is filled with people who are like-minded and seeing it for free, [...]
