Jodi vs. Martha: Black Forest Cookies

It’s Jodi vs. Martha time again!
It’s been awhile since I last attempted one of Martha Stewart’s admittedly excellent recipes, but Martha caught me in her net yet again with her “Martha Stewart Cookie of the Day” email about Black Forest Cookies.
Three kinds of chocolate? Butter? CHERRIES? I’m in.

Celebrate Pi(e) Day: Taco Chili Pie

Get it? 3/14?
Yeah - I have the feeling that the idea of Pi Day appeals to The Man about as much as Pie Day appeals to me. So – for him I will not roll my eyes when he does a little dance during Pi MINUTE (3:14 on 3/14). I will also not point out that true Pi Minute was at 3:14 this morning.

What WON’T You Eat?

“Food restrictions” have become a part of everyone’s life. Allergies, ethics, religion and taste preferences are only some of the reasons why people limit what they might eat. While I always respect the choices of others, I personally have very few limitations on what I eat. It’s hard to be a food critic if there is something you refuse to eat for any reason. As a kid, a sadistic allergist told me I was allergic to cola and chocolate. After ten years of carob and Sprite, I either grew out of …

Real Food Recipe: Slow Cooker Chili

There is a surprising amount of controversy over chili. “Chili” is short for “chili con carne” – literally translated as “peppers with meat.” For our purposes, I’ll define chili as a spicy stew made with meat, peppers, onions, garlic, cumin, chili powder, beans and tomatoes. I have no interest in the ongoing raging argument around the internet about what “real chili” might be. I’d just like to share the best chili I have made for the past several years.
