Recipe: Date Balls

At this time of year we’re all looking for that one simple food to bring, take, give and gift. All of us have that one go-to recipe that isn’t gourmet or expensive but never disappoints. For me, that is my mother’s recipe for date balls. Many recipes claim to use everyday ingredients with elegant results, but these date balls will leave your foodie friends scratching their heads as to how you made crisped rice cereal the tastiest thing on the cookie table.

Get it? 3/14?
Yeah - I have the feeling that the idea of Pi Day appeals to The Man about as much as Pie Day appeals to me. So – for him I will not roll my eyes when he does a little dance during Pi MINUTE (3:14 on 3/14). I will also not point out that true Pi Minute was at 3:14 this morning.

This is it, ladies and gentlemen… your official nudge from fate.
Valentine’s Day is coming.
It’s no surprise that February 14th is one of the busiest nights of the year for the restaurant industry. Don’t be caught by surprise! Make reservations TODAY at your favorite restaurant. Jodi vs. Better Homes & Gardens: Nutella Cream Puffs

We’ll call this one “Jodi vs. Better Homes & Gardens” – as this recipe is a modification of one that appeared under the name “Gianduia Cream Puffs” in the Better Homes & Gardens publication Christmas Baking. Gianduia is the name for a certain sort of Italian chocolate containing hazelnut paste. Originally, Nutella was marketed under the name “Pasta Gianduia” to appeal more to children. You learn something new everyday.

Treats They’ll Be Allowed to Eat

So, it’s the day before Halloween and you don’t want to be the only house with the lights off, right? Of course you don’t want to hand out leftover Easter candy or shell out $20 for several bags of candy bars that the yuppie parents on your block won’t let their kids eat. What to do?
